Online global collaborative learning: Open mind, open practice

OEGlobal Conference, Brisbane November 2024

This event was an opportunity for me to further extend understanding and purpose behind the Global Collaborator Mindset, with a focus on the attribute or ‘Openness’. As I wrote in a paper from two years ago, “Central to the Openness mindset is believing in the inherent value of transparency, openly contributing ideas, and collaboratively co-creating new knowledge together”.

In this presentation I discuss the ‘Five Dimensions of Openness’, as foundation for global collaboration, namely:

  1. Open believing
  2. Open sharing
  3. Open contributing
  4. Open inclusive co-learning
  5. Open cultural empathy

I also introduce a self-assessment framework encouraging individuals to determine a personal openness inventory with dimensions:

  • Digital openness
  • Pedagogical openness
  • Cultural openness
  • Collaborative openness

Aligning with the conference theme of ‘Open is everyone’s business’, I concluded with:

“Cultivating an open participatory mindset oriented around collaboration and flat, inclusive co-learning is everyone’s business. It is essential for transforming teaching into an open educational practice fostering global connectedness”
